Bill Cosby Takes a Stand

I have a newfound respect for Bill Cosby as he took a stand during his
speech at the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition & Citizenship Education Fund's
annual conference in Chicago last Thursday. There hasn't been a lot
of press about this speech and no one is making a big deal about it,
and of the 2 places I found this speech covered, both (E!Online &
Cnn.com) have used words like "Bill Cosby Strikes Again" and
"Bill..has more harsh words", both negative connotations if
you ask me. I think Bill Cosby should be more than rewarded for his
stance on the situations African-American's are finding themselves in
today.
As a white female, I am not allowed to say these things or I will be
crucified as a racists and whatnot. But Bill Cosby has mustered up the
balls to make a point no one else has. I am not going to say anything
more about this now and leave you to make your own decision, here are
a few snippets of his brilliant speech:
"Let me tell you something, your dirty laundry gets out of school at 2:30 every day, it's cursing and calling each other n----r as they're walking up and down the street. They think they're hip. They can't read; they can't write. They're laughing and giggling, and they're going nowhere.
You've got to stop beating up your women because you can't find a job, because you didn't want to get an education and now you're (earning) minimum wage. You should have thought more of yourself when you were in high school, when you had an opportunity.
When you put on a record, and that record is yelling 'n----r this' and 'n----r that' and cursing all over the thing and you got your little six-year-old and seven-year-old sitting in the back seat of the car--those children hear that. And I am telling you when you put the CD on and then you get up and dance to it, what are you saying to your children?
I can't even talk the way these people talk, 'Why you ain't,' 'Where you is'...and I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk, and then I heard the father talk...Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth.
For me there is a time...when we have to turn the mirror around because for me it is almost analgesic to talk about what the white man is doing against us. And it keeps a person frozen in their seat, it keeps you frozen in your hole you're sitting in."
I would like to add that his speech was interrupted by voilent applause several times and he was given a standing ovation at it's conclusion.
Also, Rev. Jesse Jackson, founder and president of the education fund, had these parting words of support for Mr. Cosby, "Bill is saying let's fight the right fight, let's level the playing field. Drunk people can't do that. Illiterate people can't do that."
